In this interactive project, teams work together to create cosplay characters and costumes based on a universe selected by the directors. It closely resembles Project Runway, except there are no trips to Mood, and no sewing machines are allowed.

The directors were LaVonne French, (Pensacola State College Faculty), and Jeannie Atwell, (30 plus years as a costumer with Pensacola Little Theater).

LaVonne selected the Star Wars galaxy and called the project “The Space Warriors Challenge.” Each team was required to come up with an original design based on the Star Wars universe and must do so within two hours.

All materials are provided, and no sewing machines are allowed. The teams use tape, staples, safety pins, and all other sorts of unconventional ways to put their designs together. Some even used duct tape.

There was a lot of laughter and joking around. Everyone was having a great time.

This was only the first year for the Cosplay Runway Challenge and it appears to be a good one.
